The Mediterranean as a question. Malta as a place of listening.

MELA — Mediterranean Ethnographic Laboratory & Archives — is rooted in Malta and attentive to the Mediterranean as a shared, complex, and contested space. Rather than offering ready-made answers, MELA listens to lived experiences shaped by faith, migration, memory, and cultural encounter. Through conferences, public conversations, cultural initiatives, and a growing archive, the project reflects on how the Church is present in the Mediterranean today — and how the Mediterranean, in turn, questions and reshapes the Church. MELA brings together diverse voices, including those beyond ecclesial boundaries, to cultivate attentive listening, shared reflection, and durable memory.
